Proud Members of the FAER Legacy Society

Photo of Warren and Nikki ZapolLooking back over his long career in the field of anesthesiology as a researcher, anesthesiologist, and chief of service at Massachusetts General Hospital, Warren has regarded FAER as a lifesaver for clinician-researchers for as long as he can remember. His enthusiasm for FAER inspired Nikki to accept an invitation to join the FAER Board seven years ago when she was an attorney involved at Partners Healthcare in academic-industry relationships. They have watched the successful careers of outstanding young clinician-scientists who, after their initial research mentorship on a T32 training grant, received FAER awards that gave them the critical time and financial support to reach a level meriting NIH grants.
Without FAER their research careers would have had little chance of succeeding because departments have not had sufficient resources to devote to research. Decades later, many of these FAER grantees continue to receive NIH support and have gone on to inspire others, some from the position of department chair. The Zapols consider FAER to be a vital resource to young clinician-scientists in anesthesia and related fields, and they are proud to be part of the FAER Legacy Society.
