Steven Barker Blends Lifetime and Legacy Gifts to Help Support FAER

Dr. Steven J. Barker

Dr. Steven J. Barker first learned about FAER and its mission years ago through the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and other professional societies. He felt a connection to FAER’s mission, reached out to its leaders, and began contributing financially to support its work.

Now retired and living in Tucson, Arizona, after working in the mechanical engineering and anesthesiology fields for 55 years, Steve says, “The core of FAER’s mission aligns to my own career mission: to promote advancements in teaching and research. FAER is an international leader in this goal of fostering teaching and research. My success as an educator and mentor has always been the most important and satisfying aspect of my academic career, and these are pillars to FAER’s mission as well.”

Because he wants to ensure his support continues far into the future, Steve has arranged a bequest in his will for FAER. “My inspiration to help FAER developed over the years from my gradually increasing support activities and committee involvement,” he says. “I’ve served as an active member of FAER’s Development Committee as well as its Legacy Society Workgroup.”

Steve has enjoyed working with FAER’s Associate Director of Development Trevor Peterson, who has helped him strengthen his relationship with FAER, and Steve hopes others will be inspired to contact FAER and join him in leaving a legacy gift to support FAER’s mission for future generations of both patients and professionals. “Members of the FAER community have been my colleagues and collaborators for many years,” he concludes, “so my place on the Legacy Society has me sitting alongside the people I respect most in our field.”
